A Folk Theorem with Private Strategies

چکیده
In this paper I prove a Folk theorem with T -private communication equilibria with an imperfect monitoring structure that may be public, private, and conditionally dependent or independent. I show that an efficient outcome is approachable as players become patient if every disobedience from efficiency is detectable by some player and some not necessarily efficient action profile. I also show that efficiency is approachable if and only if every profitable deviation from efficiency is uniformly and credibly detectable. JEL Classification: D21, D23, D82.

A Robust Folk Theorem for the Prisoner's Dilemma
We prove the folk theorem for the Prisoner’s dilemma using strategies that are robust to private monitoring. From this follows a limit folk theorem: when players are patient and monitoring is sufficiently accurate, (but private and possibly independent) any feasible individually rational payoff can be obtained in sequential equilibrium. The strategies used can be implemented by finite (randomiz...
متن کاملThe Folk Theorem for Games with Private Almost-Perfect Monitoring∗
We prove the folk theorem for discounted repeated games under private, almost-perfect monitoring. Our result covers all finite, n-player games satisfying the usual full-dimensionality condition. Mixed strategies are allowed in determining the individually rational payoffs. We assume no cheap-talk communication between players and no public randomization device.
متن کاملThe Folk Theorem for all Games with Almost Perfect Monitoring
We study repeated games with private monitoring. We prove the folk theorem with discounting for all games assuming that the monitoring is almost perfect and the payoffs satisfy the full-dimensionality condition. We assume no cheap-talk communication between players, no public randomization, and we allow for minmax payoffs in mixed strategies.
متن کاملThe folk theorem for repeated games with observation costs
The folk theorem literature has been relaxing the assumption on how much players know about each other’s past action. Here we consider a general model where players can “buy” precise information. Every period, each player decides whether to pay a cost to accurately observe the actions chosen by other players in the previous period. When a player does not pay the cost, he obtains only imperfect ...
متن کاملGeorge J . Mailath and Wojciech Olszewski “ Folk Theorems with Bounded Recall under ( Almost ) Perfect Monitoring ” Third Version PIER Working Paper 10 - 007
We prove the perfect-monitoring folk theorem continues to hold when attention is restricted to strategies with bounded recall and the equilibrium is essentially required to be strict. As a consequence, the perfect monitoring folk theorem is shown to be behaviorally robust under almost-perfect almost-public monitoring. That is, the same specification of behavior continues to be an equilibrium wh...
